Timber has been widely used as part of building construction for hundreds of years. The structural integrity and durability can however be affected by dampness and subsequent decay leading to varying degrees of damage throughout the property. It is very important that any outbreak of fungal growth is accurately identified thus enabling the correct remedial works to be implemented.
These are just a few examples of what could indicate the presence of wet or even dry rot:
- a timber floor has ‘dropped’ and perhaps feels ‘springy’?
- a gap has developed below the skirting board?
- the skirting board feels soft and looks distorted?
- a mushroom odour is present?
- What appears to be rusty red dust has appeared certain areas?
